Although Synthwave has been around since the 80's. Synthwave is a broad term for the genre characterized with the use of electronic, raw synthesizers, synonymous with Retrowave..

80's Synthwave is a synthesizer-based variant of Funk and New York Boogie music popular during the 70s. 70's Disco and other forms of electronic pop were popular at the time but in decline in America, which lead to the mixing of genres, such as Synthpop, Synthrock, Italo-Disco and other 80's-Electro/ Electronic Dance Music based variants.

Due to the limited technology of computers, many musicians used synthesizers with default Synth Presets (VSTs), Analog drum machines and MIDI file formats to create music, which lead to formulaic approach to creating music. The synthesizer replaced many instruments such as the bass guitar and drums were most notably replaced by iconic drum machines.

Needs write-up,this is a rough sketch / reminder.

Influences and Inspiration

During the 80's, American World Hegemony was at it's prime and the Soviet Union was nearing to its end, thus, the music during the decade reflected this. Many of the tracks often featured higher/happier undertones than generic Disco Pop and Rock. However this euphorism over time changed to nihilism during the early 90's.

Many synthwave acts draw inspiration from film scores and thematic elements. Notably is the soundtracks of Blade Runner or Halloween. Halloween's creator, John Carpenter, has created many soundscapes that have proved influential to the industry. While his analogue synthesizers were used out of economic necessity, others have looked to him for his atmospheric environments.
